Our Story.
Discovering the problem: Gulp’s journey begins.
Gulp’s journey began in the summer of 2017 when our founder Adam, a keen scuba diver and former Dyson engineer, attended a series of talks organised by conservation groups in Bristol. The talks left Adam feeling shocked at the colossal environmental damage being caused by microplastic pollution and what little was being done to tackle the issue.
Taking matters into our own hands: bringing Gulp to life.
With a background in engineering and a desire to create positive change, Adam decided to take matters into his own hands. In July 2017, he left his job and started his own business. He put a pitch together and won a £250 ‘Will It Work?’ grant from the Prince’s Trust. With this money, he built a rig using a bucket, wood, and an old washing machine that he had taken apart.
Where we are now.
Fast forward five years, and we've come a long way. We've upgraded from a garden shed to a cool warehouse in Bristol. Our parent company, Matter, is made up of a team of passionate engineers and ocean lovers with a shared purpose to drive change and make a positive impact. Through developing innovative, simple solutions like Gulp, we are committed to empowering individuals to take action against microplastic pollution. By working together, we believe we can tackle this problem head on and build a better future for our oceans, people and planet.
